Renée Webster has a BSc (Hons.) in Chemistry from the University of Western Australia and PhD in Chemistry from Monash University. She has professional experience in a range of fields including environmental, food, forensic and fuel chemistry. Renée is currently a research chemist at the Defence Science and Technology Group, specialising in analytical chemistry, separation science, and the thermal stability of aviation and maritime fuels.

How does this session contribute to Seeing Science Differently?
Communicating science in an Australian Defence context is a new topic for discussion for ASC and DST Group is often overlooked in the national publicly funded research organisation landscape. We believe the ASC community would find interest in, and benefit from, knowledge of some of the challenges and pitfalls of communicating science in this unique environment that is often hindered by policy and security restrictions, as well as a traditionally conservative approach to communications. Science is seen (and communicated) differently in Defence, sometimes with conflicting drivers and goals to other kinds of publicly-funded research.
