Abstract

The Bioregional Assessment Programme will inform decision making on the cumulative impacts of proposed coal mines and coal seam gas projects on regional water resources and water-dependent assets such as wetlands and groundwater bores.

This $90 million scientific collaboration involves the Australian Government’s Department of Environment and Energy, CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology and Geoscience Australia.

More than 100 researchers have been involved in analysing the ecology, hydrology, hydrogeology and geology of 13 regions in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. The program takes science transparency and delivery to a new level.

This presentation will illustrate the key challenges of communicating complex science involving big data, to ensure impact.
